How to prevent hair tangling?

Have you ever looked into why your hair tangles and what can be done about it?

It’s no secret that long, beautiful hair requires good care. But we can all agree that one of the most unpleasant things faced by those with long hair is tangling. Besides the fact that combing can take a lot of time, it can also be very painful and damaging to the hair.

How to minimize tangling?

Some hair types are more prone to tangling than others. However, there are certain rules which, if followed, will allow you to minimize tangling, as well as the damage and discomfort it causes. Here are a few of our favorite tips on how you can achieve this:

1. Use a hair conditioner

A conditioner moisturizes the hair and makes it smoother and less prone to tangling. We recommend using a conditioner after every hair wash, as well as a deep-conditioning hair mask once every one to two weeks.

Tip: apply the conditioner and mask along the length and to the ends of the hair to avoid greasy roots.

Our recommendations:

Previa BETULA LEAF Conditioner Instant Detangler

A conditioner with an anti-frizz effect. Instantly detangles, conditions, hydrates, and revitalizes the hair. Reduces frizz and static electricity. Leaves hair soft, silky, and shiny.

pH Smooth Perfect Conditioner

A conditioner for taming unruly, frizzy hair. Enriched with monoi oil and magnolia extract. Detangles and moisturizes the hair, eliminates frizz. Leaves hair smooth and silky, with a light, pleasant scent.

2. Use a detangling brush

Using a regular comb may seem more appealing, since it’s “faster.” However, believe us, it’s a good idea to use a special detangling brush. You will not only detangle more effectively, but also protect your hair from breakage and damage.

Tip: do not brush your hair along the entire length right away. Start from the ends and gradually move up to the roots. This will help avoid painful brushing and excessive hair damage.

3. Brush your hair several times a day

If your hair is prone to tangling, it’s probably not a very good idea to brush it only once a day. Brush your hair 2–3 times a day using a soft-bristle brush, especially before the shower and before bed.

Tip: do not brush your hair after washing it. Wet hair is much easier to damage than dry hair.

4. Protect your hair during sleep

Speaking of sleep, do you know that hair can also get tangled while you sleep?

There are a few tips that will help avoid hair tangling during sleep:

  • As we already mentioned in the previous tip, brush your hair before going to bed.
  • Braid your hair before bed into a loose braid.
  • Do not go to bed with a wet head.

5. Choose the right hair cosmetics

Avoid any products that contain alcohol. Alcohol makes your hair drier and more prone to tangling. Choose natural cosmetics that do not contain alcohol and sulfates.
